Snacking on the go with kids

Healthy tips to save headaches when transporting toddlers:

Bags, twist ties, containers and bottles – A lot of parents stock up on these snack containers, and wash them right after use, so they're always available.

Contingency snacks – As optimistic as parents are about planning ahead, life, and toddlers, get in the way. Having some pre-packaged snacks in the cupboard helps.

Snack safety – Getting a toddler to sit down and eat in the busiest part of the zoo, museum or mall is nearly impossible. Parents develop a trained eye for finding quieter, out-of-the way spots at these destinations where it's easier to supervise.

Snack mobility – Fruits, dried fruits, vegetables and ready-to-eat cereals are easy ways to transport a lot of good nutrition. Bananas come with built-in packaging.

Emergency snacks: finding good stuff at convenience stores – It's actually possible to find decent snacks at convenience stores during hunger-related meltdowns: string cheese, pretzels, yogurt, ready-to-eat cereal, individual milk or juice drinks, popped popcorn, granola bars, crackers made with whole grain and sometimes even fruits and vegetables.
