All foods can fit into a healthy eating pattern if they are eaten in moderate
amounts, and balanced by lower-fat or lower-calorie options. The latest food
pyramid from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, called MyPyramid, can help you
choose a variety of foods for good health.
MyPyramid has six vertical strips, each one representing a different food
group. The width of each band suggests how much food a person should choose
from each group. Each band gets wider at the base as a reminder to choose items
more often from each group that contain little or no solid fats or added
sugars. The pyramid also shows a person walking up steps to show that exercise
is an important part of health and nutrition.
Since one size doesn’t fit all,
different people need a different number of servings from each food group.
MyPyramid provides a personalized approach to healthy eating and physical
activity to help you achieve a healthier lifestyle.
